Don’t let the name full you, this pizza tavern, located on 14th street (among other locations, but this was the first), has more than artichokes on the menu. From plain margherita to crab, your taste buds will be electrified.
As for me, I tend to try what establishments are famous for. So, I ordered a slice of artichoke pizza, complete with artichoke hearts, spinach, cream sauce, mozzarella, and pecorino romano cheese (whatever that is).
Now before you judge me for the slice of pizza that is as big as my thigh, literally, let it be known that I split it with a friend. There is no way I could have finished the whole thing, and no one wants to let a perfectly good slice of pizza go to waste.
The crust was buttery, the pizza was a perfect combination of cheesy goodness with a side of artichoke heartiness. I am sure all the health benefits of the artichoke and spinach were butter-soaked out of the pizza, but no one even thinks of that as their first bite overcomes their taste buds and all you want to do is sit there and never leave.
The best thing about this pizza? A slice only cost $4.75. And, considering I split it, that means I spent about $2.50 on dinner AND a beautiful day. You can choose to sit inside the restaurant, but my friend and I opted for the benches outside, because it was sunny, breezy and a perfect compliment to the pizza.
I definitely will be going back in the near future.
